Ethical Impacts Of Ai
Hello Everyone, this is Madhan I am going to share my points on the Ethical Impacts of AI, before I start, I would like to explain what is a Technological singularity, so a The technological singularity is a hypothetical future point in time at which technological growth becomes uncontrollable and irreversible, resulting in unforeseeable consequences for human civilization. A point at which human intelligence is surpassed by Artificial Intelligence. We will discuss about this more towards the end on the session. Now, back to Ethical Impacts of AI First of all, What is Ethics? Standards that are set to do things that are morally right which don’t harm others.. Let's see what are the the current ethical implications of using Artificial Intelligence.
Bias in AI Systems
For example, an AI system trained on job application data may learn to favor certain countries over others, leading to unfair outcomes.
Privacy Concerns
AI systems often require substantial amounts of data to function effectively. This data is frequently personal and sensitive in nature, raising concerns about privacy. Examples can be Health care system, personal activity tracking systems
Accountability and Transparency
AI systems can make decisions and take actions with significant impacts on individuals and society. But who is responsible when an AI system makes a wrong decision? The issue of accountability is a major ethical concern. Alongside this, there's also a need for transparency. Understanding how an AI system makes its decisions is crucial for assessing its fairness and reliability. Currently, AI systems are black boxes, where transparency is a huge concern.
Job Displacement
The rise of AI has the potential to drastically alter the job market. Many jobs, particularly those involving routine tasks, may be automated, leading to job displacement. While this could lead to increased productivity and efficiency, it also raises serious ethical questions about the future of work and income inequality. So these are some of the ethical impacts of AI. Now let me talk about Technological singularity. Remember, it is the point at which Artificial intelligence surpasses human intelligence.
After Technological Singularity is passed, morality in itself might expand to include Artificial Intelligence or it can be made exclusive for those higher intelligence. Similar to how, say, while picking something from refrigerator, we might carelessly step on an ant or group an ants, right? Here our goal is to get something from Refrigerator. We are not worried about the ants neither they are not of any threat to us. What if our goal is much important, like instead of getting something from Refrigerator, its about saving a baby from falling from bed. Then is it safe to say, we won’t care about the survival of ants, but the survival of our own species? Now, in this scenario, replace you and the baby with AI beings, and group of ants with humanity. It becomes our responsibility to regulate the growth with adequate ethical mechanisms and laws. We somehow have to make sure to teach a new born not to destroy its forefathers. I would like to conclude with a question for you to discuss, what do you think, does our best intentions or ethics or morality will align with the artificial intelligence and it’s morality, or will it create it’s own set of rules and ethics based on its own survival only? More simply, will we co-evolve with the AI or not?
